Lumbarda is small fishermen's village of around 1200 inhabitants. It is situated at the eastern part of Island of Korcula, about 7 kilometers from Korcula Old Town. The village is built around small bay and on the hills behind it, and is surrounded by large sandy vineyards of well-known Grk wine. There are archeological traces that prove the existence of old Greek and Roman culture.

In the 4th century BC a Hellenistic agricultural settlement was founded here by old Greeks who discovered and used this place as an escape from crowded and noisy Athens. A historical lapidary document, originating from the 4th century B.C., called the Psephism of Lumbarda, concerning the distribution of land and the common law of the Ancient Greek colonists from the island of Vis, was found in the local basilica Koludrt.

There was a Roman villa rustic (rural estate) in the field north-east of the village near Bilin zal beach. Since the 16st century prosperous Korcula landowners built summer houses called "kaštel" on the best sites around Lumbarda, some of them still well preserved and inhabited by local families.

Sveti Rok (Lumbarda patron) parish church stands on Vela Glavica hill in the middle of old Lumbarda, and there are several small old chapels in the village itself: St Bartul, St Peter, The Nativity of the Virgin (Mala Gospa). The church of the Holy Cross (Sv. Kriz) from 1774, in front of which is a characteristic porch, is surrounded by vineyards.
